Description

History of the item: This is the ULTRA RARE Tristessa w/ La Dolly Vita 7" single on GREY VINYL, from late 1990 or early 1991. Part of the Sub Pop Singles Club (Sub Pop #90), the first 4500 records were pressed in pink vinyl, and then 3000 were pressed in black vinyl--7500 singles total. Due to a mistake at the factory, between going from pink to black vinyl, some were pressed in grey...it is estimated that under 100 of these records were pressed. THIS IS ONE OF THOSE GREY RECORDS! The record is from my personal collection and was purchased by me back when it came out, and I've NEVER PLAYED it. As you will see by the photos, the subscription form is still attached, so all is as I bought it, some 16 or 17 years ago. The vinyl I would grade as at least Ex+/M-, and the sleeve I would grade as Ex/Ex+. I try to grade my items as accurately as possible, and if it's questionable, I make a conservative grading. Know that this is the first time I've removed it from the plastic sleeve, to take these photographs and show the record.

This is an extremely rare Smashing Pumpkins item that you won't see come up often--one of the most sought after Smashing Pumpkins items there is in existence--only things like test pressings get more rare than this. In fact, it may be years before you see this one come around again, or it may just about never come around again. I'd say the great majority of these have found their permanent home over the last 16+ years.  Actually, I've never personally seen this come up on Ebay, and I've been watching for it for quite a while.  Since I knew what I had was quite rare, I've always been curious to see what kind of price it would bring--its true dollar value--I'm sure a lot of you fellow Ebayers out there do the same thing with some of the things in your own collections--just out of curiosity, or with the thought of someday selling.

Anyway, I'm about to find out what it's really worth. I need to move in the near future, so I need to raise money, and so I've decided to part with this item--along with some other rare records that I'm now selling (check my other listings, if you're interested). Though it is probably the rarest and most valuable item in my entire music collection, I know there are Smashing Pumpkins fans out there that will appreciate having this in their home far more than I ever could. And as nice as it is to have, I'd rather see a huge fan have it, because I know it'd be their baby--and that thought makes finally parting with this a lot easier--my rarest record. So here's your chance, your rare chance to acquire such a rare Smashing Pumpkins and Sub Pop item, what eil.com calls 'The Holy Grail!!':

As much as I need the money by selling it, I'm also really curious to see what it will bring.  In researching through the internet, trying to find a price for what it may have went for in the past, I found just one listing that referred to it selling for $251 in the year 2000, seven years ago. That site is here:

Well, let's see what it brings in 2007. As you can see, the starting bid price is very low, and there is a Reserve Price, though it is considerably less than what it went for in the year 2000.

Paypal is certainly preferred, buy I will except a Money Order.

Happy Bidding!! And Thanks for helping me move--both my 'Sweet Potato' and I really appreciate it--I'm moving to be closer to her, and I'm so looking forward to it. I'd have her cook the winner up something good, but I'm not so sure how it would mail. I'll have her brainstorm you up 'something extra' as a big Thank You, something to go with the record. Thanks.
